The celebration of the 185th anniversary of the birth of the first president and co-founder of the Bulgarian Learned Society (today Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), Prof. Marin Drinov, were discussed at a meeting today by the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, and the Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Kiril Valchev. Prof. Marin Drinov was born on October 20, 1838 in the town of Panagyurishte.

With his writings on Bulgarian history, Prof. Drinov became the first Bulgarian historiographer, Prof. Kiril Valchev said, and recalled his contribution to the drafting of the Constitution, for leading the enlightenment and proposing Sofia to become the capital. These are enough occasions on today’s day to present you with the medal on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the BTA, the Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency said. He thanked the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Academic Publishing House of BAS for publishing the books dedicated to the 125th anniversary of BTA. The history is under the editorship of Prof. Roumiana Preshlenova, Director of the Institute of Balkan Studies with Centre of Thracology at BAS.

Without memory we cannot move forward and what Prof. Marin Drinov has done are key revolutionary steps, said Prof. Revalski and thanked the Director General for his special attention on this day.

During the meeting of Prof. Revalski with Kiril Valchev, the possibility was discussed that next October, on the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, a special issue of the LIK magazine with the pieces of information of BTA about BAS during the 125 years of the Agency will be published.

After the meeting Prof. Revalski and Kiril Valchev laid flowers at the monument of Prof. Marin Drinov in Scientific Complex 1 of BAS.
