On December 2, the tenth edition of one of the Academy’s educational initiatives aimed at students and teachers was opened – the High-School-Students’ Institute of BAS. The scientific competition session this year attracted participants from 29 schools and 17 cities in the country.

The President of BAS opened the scientific forum by welcoming the participants of the session and encouraged the young people to be bold and active in their search for knowledge and communication with the scientific community. Prof. Revalski, Member of the Academy, expressed satisfaction with the level of the projects submitted for participation and the successful collaboration of scientists from the Academy’s institutes with teachers and students from the country.

Acad. Petar Kenderov, Head of HSSI-BAS, congratulated the participants in the tenth edition of the Students’ Scientific Session and thanked the organizations and people who have supported the work of HSSI-BAS over the years.

Nearly 200 students, teachers, academics and scientists took part in the preparation, review and evaluation of the projects presented to the jury.

The 72 projects admitted for presentation in the students’ scientific session were evaluated by a jury in 6 separate sections: two sections for Information, Communication and Technical Sciences (24 projects in total); Mathematics (10 projects); Biology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry (15 projects); Chemistry, Physics, Physical chemistry (8 projects); Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts (15 projects).

The thematic diversity in each of these sections is impressive. Both classical areas of the humanities and social sciences are covered, as well as contemporary topics related to the most rapidly developing technologies.

This year the Institute received tangible support for its activities from the Bulgarian Society of Cardiology and from members of the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members of BAS.

The students awarded by the juries received interesting publications provided by the “Zahari Stoyanov” publishing house, the “Prof. Marin Drinov” publishing house of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the “Bulgarian Encyclopedia” scientific information center.
