World Water Day on 22 March and World Meteorological Day on 23 March were celebrated today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The event was organized by the Climate, Atmosphere and Water Research Institute of BAS (CAWRI-BAS).

Corr. Memb. Ekaterina Batchvarova, Director of CAWRI, presented the participation of the Institute’s scientists in a project on wetland restoration along the Danube, funded by the Horizon Europe Programme. The Scientific Secretary of the “Climate Change, Hazards and Natural Resources” division of BAS, Prof. Denitsa Borisova, congratulated the organisers and the participants on behalf of the President of BAS, Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy. Today we take stock of the merit and contribution of scientific achievements and expertise related to the prevention of climate change, said the congratulatory address.

On the occasion of the World Water Day, the Climate, Atmosphere and Water Research Institute organized a competition for essays, presentations, posters and drawings. The prize-winning entries as well as posters by CAWRI scientists on the World Water Day 2024 theme “Water for Peace” and also on the World Meteorological Day 2024 theme “At the Frontline of Climate Action” were displayed in the foyer of BAS.
