His Holiness the Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil received today the President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva in the Synodal Palace. During the meeting, the important role of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in strengthening the faith and spirituality of the Bulgarian people was highlighted. Both sides expressed their hope that the current cooperation will continue in the future and agreed to implement joint initiatives between the two institutions in the scientific and spiritual field.
Patriarch Daniil thanked Corr. Evelina Slavcheva and through her the entire scientific community at BAS for the letter with which they supported the Bulgarian Orthodox Church – Bulgarian Patriarchate in the case with the attempt to register a second, parallel Orthodox Church.
The meeting was attended by Their Eminences Metropolitan Joseph of the USA, Canada and Australia, Metropolitan Gabriel of Lovech, Metropolitan Joan of Varna and Veliki Preslav, Metropolitan Seraphim of Nevrokop, Bishop Gerasim of Melnik – Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maria Kyoseva – legal advisor to the Holy Synod. On behalf of BAS, Corr. Memb. Atanas Kovachev also participated.
At the end of the meeting, symbolic gifts were exchanged, as Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva presented His Holiness with copies of original significant documents from the personal collection of Metropolitan Kliment (Vasil Drumev). He is among the founders of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and the documents are kept in the Scientific Archives of BAS. Patriarch Daniil presented the President of BAS with jubilee coins with the images of miracle-working icons of the Mother of God in the country as well as with the book by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maria Kyoseva “Civil Law Status of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church”.
