Exhibition “Cajal, 170 years”

  An exhibition "Cajal, 170 years", dedicated to the Spanish Nobel laureate Santiago Ramon y Cajal, was opened today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The exhibition is on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the birth of the Spanish scientist and the 90th anniversary of the opening of the Cajal Institute. Santiago Ramon y Cajal is considered the founder of neuroscience for his discoveries about the mechanisms that govern the morphology and connecting processes of nerve cells. This exhibition tells the story of Cajal's remarkable life, his great contributions and dedication to science. National conference on “shadow economy” was held at BAS

  On 02.06.2023 the Social Survey Research Center and the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of BAS held a national conference on "Factor Determination of the "Shadow Economy" in the Perceptions of Bulgarian Society: Empirical Study, Results, Interpretations and Policy Recommendations". The Forum was held under a project funded by the Bulgarian National Science Fund. The study is a fundamental research project which presented the results and analytical products of the research carried out in the period 2020-2023. Participants' reports presented different aspects of the "shadow economy". A Shadow Economy Tolerance Index (SETI) was calculated for the first time in Bulgaria. This index gives an idea of the relative share of "shadow practices" in Bulgaria and was specifically designed for the purpose of the project. [...]

Scientific session “Young scientists in the world of polymers”

  The fourteenth scientific session "Young scientists in the world of polymers", organised by the Institute of Polymers-BAS, was held on June 1. The event is part of the Institute's activities related to promoting the scientific achievements of young Bulgarian researchers engaged in the field of polymer materials to the academic community, business and the general public. Twenty-two young scientists from institutes of BAS and different universities presented their work. During the session were awarded student Rumena Stancheva from IP-BAS and PhD student Denitsa Nikolova from the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at SU-Sofia. Awards for the best poster were given to young scientist Lyubomira Radeva from the Faculty of Pharmacy at MU-Sofia and PhD student Ina Anastasova from IP-BAS. Links to the posters are [...]

Scientific session “50 Years of Psychology at BAS: Development of Scientific Knowledge about Man”

On May 29, a jubilee scientific session "50 YEARS OF PSYCHOLOGY AT BAS: Development of Scientific Knowledge about Man" was held, organised by the Department of Psychology of the Institute for Population and Human Studies - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IPHS-BAS), dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the first academic unit of psychology at BAS. The event was attended by public figures, representatives of the academic community and business, collaborators of the Institute and others. International conference “Epigenetic mechanisms of crop adaptation to climate change”

The third international conference of the EPI-CATCH scientific network "Epigenetic mechanisms of crop adaptation to climate change - CA19125", funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST), is taking place from 30 May to 1 June in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The Director of the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics Prof. Valya Vassileva opened the forum. The main objective of the EPI-CATCH network is to establish a pan-European framework for the exchange of knowledge and skills in the field of plant epigenetics. BAS awarded 22 young scientists for 24 May

A solemn assembly on the occasion of the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and of the Slavonic literature was held at the “Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall of BAS.  During the ceremony the awards for young scientists "Professor Marin Drinov" and for the youngest scientists "Ivan Evstratiev Geshov" for 2022 were presented. The prizes are awarded by the General Assembly (GA) for achievements in nine scientific fields. The President of the GA, Corr. Member. Evelina Slavcheva and Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova presented the awards. Twemty-two young scientists were awarded for their achievements in the past year.
