International workshop on biodiversity

A training course with international participation: BioDATA workshop "Accelerating biodiversity research through DNA barcodes, collection, and observation data" was held from 17 to 21 April at the Training and Experimental Base of the University of Forestry, Yundola. Japanese cherry trees at the Geological Institute of BAS for Earth Day

  The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences celebrated the World Earth Day at the initiative of the Geological Institute (GI-BAS) on 21 April. Three cherry trees were planted in front of the Institute's building with the kind assistance of the Japanese Embassy in Bulgaria. The Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Narahira, and the Director of the Geological Institute of BAS Assoc. Prof. Svetoslav Georgiev planted the Japanese cherry trees in the presence of the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy. The planting of a tree identifies the relationship "man - planet" and has a special symbolic meaning. The Director of RIKEN Europe Office visited BAS

  The Director of RIKEN Europe Office Dr. Toshiyasu Ichioka visited the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences at the invitation of the President Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of BAS. RIKEN is the largest research institution in Japan, renowned for high quality research in a diverse range of scientific disciplines. Dr. Ichioka met on 18 April with Prof. Julian Revalski and the Chief Scientific Secretary Prof. Neli Koseva. During their conversation, the RIKEN Director was introduced to the scientific activities and structure of BAS. After the meeting, Dr. Ichioka gave a lecture to the scientists of the Academy in “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. International Youth Biennale “Bulgarian Traces in the World – with Palette, Camera and Word”

  On April 20, 2023, the second edition of the International Youth Biennale "Bulgarian Traces in the World - with Palette, Camera and Word", organized by the Bulgarian Sunday School "Assen and Ilia Peikov" and the Cultural Association "Parallel 43" in Rome, Italy, was launched. The main goal of the forum is to revive the collective memory of Bulgarian communities abroad and the youth in Bulgaria through the recovery of tangible and intangible cultural monuments (such as customs, traditions, artworks, architectural monuments, historical places, personalities, temples, etc.) scattered around the world where our compatriots live. International contest for schoolchildren “Traces of Cyril and Methodius’ Work around the World”

  The Cyrillo-Methodian Research Center at BAS, part of the consortium of the Center of Excellence "Heritage BG", and the Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad are organizing an international  competition "Traces of Cyril and Methodius' work around the world".  This joint initiative is part of the celebrations in 2023 on the occasion of the 1160th anniversary of the Slavonic script and aims to promote the work of Cyril and Methodius among Bulgarian migrant communities on all continents, to enrich the knowledge of students from Bulgarian Sunday schools abroad, to develop their talents and encourage their research interests.
