Tribute to the Apostle of Freedom

152 years since the death of Vasil Levski On the day of the 152nd anniversary of the death of Vasil Levski, representatives of the leadership and staff of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences paid tribute to the personality and work of the Apostle of Freedom. A wreath and flowers were laid at the monument of Vasil Levski in Sofia. Sofia Airport from today is named after Vasil Levski

From today, Sofia Airport is named after the Apostle of Freedom Vasil Levski. President Rumen Radev issued a decree (on the basis of Article 98, item 13 of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria by his Decree No. 22 of 17 February 2025) by which the official name became "Vasil Levski" airport - Sofia. The project proposed by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for naming Sofia Airport after the brightest historical figure for Bulgaria, Vasil Levski, was supported by the Ministry of Transport and Communications in 2024. Meeting of the President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva with the Ambassador of Kazakhstan H.E. Viktor Temirbayev

The implementation of joint projects and initiatives between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan were discussed at a meeting at the Academy by the President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva and the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Bulgaria, H.E. Viktor Temirbayev. Among the topics of the discussion was research in the field of green energy. Corr. Memb. New Scientific Secretaries of BAS

  Scientific secretaries in seven of the nine research areas of BAS were elected by the General Assembly of the Academy at a meeting held on 10 February. According to the Statutes of BAS, the Scientific Secretaries have a term of four years and are part of the leadership team of the President of the Academy. In the Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies division, Prof. Ivan Georgiev from the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies will serve a second term as the Scientific Secretary.   The cooperation between BAS and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) in the field of cultural and historical heritage was discussed at a meeting at BAS by the President Corr. Memb. The Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Acad. Asaf Hajiyev visits BAS

The role of the academies of sciences in improving the cooperation between the countries of the Black Sea region was discussed at a meeting today at BAS by the President of the Academy, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva and Acad. Asaf Hajiyev - Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC).
