A Doctoral Forum of BAS brought together 80 young scientists

Eighty young scientists exchanged scientific ideas during an interdisciplinary doctoral forum dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Academician Julian Revalski, President of BAS, visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia

The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of BAS, accompanied by Professor Evdokia Pasheva, Scientific Secretary-General of the Academy and Professor Sevdalina Dimitrova, Scientific Secretary of division “Energy Resources and Energy Efficiency”, visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna in the period 2-4 June 2019. The visit was in the framework of the 12th International Meeting "JINR Expertise for Member States and Partner Countries" (JEMS-12). As part of the JEMS-12 program, the Bulgarian delegation acquainted itself with the scientific infrastructure of the Institute and met with leading scientists from various laboratories. A 7600-year-old grave was discovered in Slatina by archaeologists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

Early Neolithic grave, about 7 600 years old, was discovered by a team of archaeologists led by corr.-member Vassil Nikolov, Vice-President of BAS, in Slatina settlement. The find is extremely rare. The forthcoming studies will provide information on the physical characteristics of the people who gave birth to the first European civilization in today's Bulgarian lands. According to corr.-member Nikolov, the scientists have enough data on the way of life of the people in the settlement of Slatina but it has not yet been established what the funeral practices were. An international team described a unique fossil found in Burmese amber

Using state-of-the-art technology, a Bulgarian-German research team established the first fossil representative of the Callipodida order. The new, unknown to science type of millipede with a size of only 8.2 millimeters is found in 99 million-year-old amber. The new species of arthropod who lived in the Cretaceous period along with the dinosaurs is much smaller than all the known representatives of its group and differs significantly from all the species known so far which is why the scientists have separated it in a specially created new family and suborder.
