Scientist from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS with an award in the competition “For Women in Science”

Dr. Mariya Dzhumalieva-Stoeva is one of this year's winners of the national scholarship "For Women in Science" for Bulgaria. The prestigious award was presented to her by Vice President Iliana Iotova at an awards ceremony held in Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". Dr. Dzhumalieva-Stoeva's is a postdoctoral student at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS under the National Program "Young Scientists and Postdoctoral Students" funded by the Ministry of Education and Science as well as Chief Assistant Professor of Computer Science at “St. Cyril and St. Methodius" University of Veliko Tarnovo. Scientists from BAS are offering the government a strategy for the development of artificial intelligence

The document is submitted for consideration to the Council of Ministers and is designed to support the development of a National Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Bulgaria by 2030. International recognition of a Bulgarian scholar

Prof. Nikolay Yanev, PhD, from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was awarded the honorary title Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Extremadura, Spain. Prof. Yanev was distingushed for his research in mathematics and the theory of probability and mathematical statistics in particular. The award proposal was made by the Faculty of Science on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the University of Extremadura. During the ceremony, together with Prof. Yanev, the honorary title was conferred on four more world-renowned scientists. Professor Nikolay Yanev is a former director of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (IMI) (1993-1999), Head of Probability and Statistics Section (2000-2012) and currently Professor Emeritus at IMI-BAS.
