The "Bulgarian Archaeology 2024" national archaeological exhibition was opened on 14 February at the National Archaeological Institute with Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Over 500 exhibits from 32 sites, varying in type and chronology, from the Prehistory to the Late Middle Ages are presented. The date 14 February was chosen because it marks the professional holiday of the archaeologist. Among the most impressive exhibits in the exhibition are prehistoric gold ornaments from the Varna necropolis, imported vessels found in the necropolis of Apollonia, exquisite gold ornaments from a burial mound near the village of Captain Petko Voyvoda, bronze figurines and votive tablets from the sanctuary of Mount Alamoura, a richly decorated glass phiale from Deultum, the head of a marble statue from Heraclea [...]

The Vice-President of BAS, Prof. DSc Shtelian D. Shterionov participated today in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Viticulture and Horticulture of the Agricultural University of Plovdiv and the ritual vine pruning on the occasion of Trifon Zarezan (Trifon the Pruner) holiday. A national discussion "SOS for Cultural Heritage" with the participation of scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was held today in Sofia. The forum was organized by the Cultural Heritage Society - the Bulgarian representative of the largest European organization for the preservation of cultural heritage "Europa Nostra" and the "Standard" media. The photodocumentary exhibition "The pogrom in Bosilegrad 15-16 May 1917" by Associate Professor Dr. Angel Dzhonev from the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was opened on January 29 at the National Assembly. The exposition was organized with the assistance of the Bulgarian Cultural Information Centre in Bosilegrad. It should be recalled that on 15 and 16 May 1917 a Serbian detachment led by the voivode Kosta Pećanac penetrated the pre-war borders of the Kingdom of Bulgaria attacking the Bosilegrad region. As a result of the attack, 35 civilian Bulgarians were killed, the property of 317 households was destroyed, and the damage was estimated at over 2.5 million leva at the time.
