Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, was elected President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for the period 2021-2024. The meeting of the General Assembly of BAS for the election of a president was held online on 30 November. According to the anti-epidemic measures in the country, the secret ballot was held according to a pre-specified schedule.

Prof. Revalski was elected President of BAS with 68 votes out of 86 voting members of the General Assembly of BAS. Nine blank ballots were submitted, 2 votes were invalid and 7 people voted “no”. Prof. Julian Revalski was the only candidate for the post. In his Management Programme of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2021-2024) he emphasizes the sustainable development of human scientific potential in the Academy, the active participation of scientists of BAS in innovative developments, even wider participation of BAS in the educational process at all levels and reaffirming the Academy as the main expert center of the country.

Prof. Julian Revalski has been the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 2016, and in the period 2013-2016 he was the Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS. His areas of scientific interest are related to the study of operations – optimization, variational analysis, game theory; functional analysis – geometry of Banach spaces and monotone operators and in the field of general topology – topological methods in optimization and set-valued mappings. He has 60 scientific publications cited over 600 times.
