From 5 to 8 July 2022, XX National Symposium “Polymers 2022” with international participation was held in the city of Velingrad. Started in the distant 1967, the forum has established itself as the most significant event in the field of polymer science in Bulgaria for dissemination of scientific results, exchange of ideas and development of collaborations between Bulgarian and foreign scientists.

The “Polymers 2022” Symposium is organised by the Institute of Polymers at BAS, with the cooperation of SU “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy – Sofia and “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov” University – Burgas and financially supported by the Bulgarian National Science Fund (project KP-06- MNF/1/17.05.2022), DOW, FOT and Labprim. This year’s edition was attended by 70 scientists, with a total of 30 papers and 37 poster presentations, on topics related to the synthesis of polymers with different architecture and composition, advanced methods for polymer analysis, design of polymer nanoparticles, nanofibers and composites, biopolymers, polymer recycling and environmental protection, innovative technologies and applications. At the invitation of the organisers, plenary papers were presented by Prof. Nicolay Tsarevsky (USA ), Prof. Antoine Debuigne (Belgium), Prof. Barbara Trzebicka (Poland), Prof. Albena Lederer (Germany) and Prof. Stergios Pispas (Greece). An authoritative scientific jury awarded a diploma and a cash prize to two young scientists – Konstans Ruseva (“St. Kliment Ohridski” University) and Erik Dimitrov (Institute of Polymers, BAS).
