The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, presented Prof. Diana Petkova with the Honorary Medal of BAS “Marin Drinov on a Ribbon”. The distinction is awarded for significant scientific achievements in the field of biochemistry and biophysics, for her multifaceted public, organizational and expert activities to raise the authority of Bulgarian science and on the occasion of her 70th anniversary.

The ceremony has been held today during a solemn assembly of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria on the occasion of the Day of the National Enlighteners. Prof. Diana Petkova is the President of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria.

At the ceremony the Vice President of BAS Corresponding Member Evdokia Pasheva presented awards to young scientists for 2021 and 2022. The awards bear the names of eminent scientists from BAS, as well as foreign members of the Academy, on the occasion of their jubilees. Nine young scientists have been awarded in the 2021 competition in the fields of natural and mathematical sciences and humanities and social sciences. The 2022 awards were also presented to seven young scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In the field of natural and mathematical sciences, the award is named after Acad. Roumen Tsanev. In the field of humanities it is dedicated to Paisii Hilendarski. A list of the awardees can be found below.

The prizes for the competition are a private donation. The prizes are awarded for the scientific work of a young scientist(s), alone or in co-authorship in a team of young scientists.
