Innovative biologically active agents for the needs of personalized and preventive medicine were presented at the Fourth Scientific Conference “Innovative Low-Toxic Biologically Active Agents for Precision Medicine”, held from 12 to 16 June 2023. The scientific conference was held in the framework of the NRP BioActiveMed, with the leading organisation Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the financial support of the Ministry of Education and Science.
More than 50 scientists took part in the scientific forum and presented the results of the interdisciplinary research conducted in seven institutes of BAS and five universities. The presentations were divided into six scientific sessions and one poster session. Results were reported on the development of new biologically active systems containing extracts from natural sources of plant or animal origin from Bulgaria, their antibacterial and antitumor activity as well as their anti-infective effect. During the presentations, new and advanced approaches were demonstrated to develop appropriate polymer formulations and systems in which to incorporate these products so that they are effective as novel agents for the prevention and support of therapy of certain diseases. The focus was mainly on exploring the therapeutic potential for the prevention and treatment of certain socially important diseases such as neurodegenerative, oncological and infectious diseases. Innovative results protected as utility models and patents were also presented.
