The world Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE has elected Acad. Krassimir Atanassov as a voting member.

IEEE is the largest technical professional organization in the world whose main goal is the development of technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of mankind. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers has more than 400 000 members in over 160 countries, with about 45% of them outside the United States.

“Recognizing the achievements of its members is an important part of the IEEE’s mission. Each year, after a rigorous evaluation process, the IEEE Fellow Committee recommends a select group of recipients for elevation to the rank of IEEE Fellow. Less than 0.1% of the voting membership is selected annually for this elevation to the rank of Fellow,” the Institute’s announcement states.

Academician Atanassov has been selected for his contributions to the introduction of intuitionistic fuzzy sets and their applications. The recognition for the Bulgarian scientist is the highest degree of membership in the prestigious IEEE. The organization is the trusted “voice” for engineering, computer and technology information worldwide.

Academician Krassimir Atanassov was born in Burgas in 1954. He is one of the few scientists in Bulgaria with two Doctor of Sciences theses – in the field of technical sciences and in the field of mathematical sciences.
