Prof. Dr. August Ivanov, Director of the Institute of Robotics of BAS, is listed in the Golden Book of Bulgarian Discoverers and Inventors. He is the only scientist to be awarded the highest distinction by the Patent Office for 2024. The President of the Patent Office Olya Dimitrova announced the name of Prof. Ivanov at an official ceremony held today at the Central Patent Library.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Dr. David Sukalinski presented the award to Prof. Ivanov who worked in the field of robotics, sensorics, artificial intelligence, nano and micro technologies. The scientist is part of teams that have developed for the first time a new generation of magnetic field sensors – Hall sensors with a maximally simplified design and planar magnetoresistance. These elements are unparalleled in control and measurement technology and have applications in robotics, artificial intelligence systems, automation, sensorics, medicine, meteorology, process automation, counter-terrorism, and more.

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences creates conditions and motivates scientists to explore unknown things, invisible to the human eye. With these words, Prof. August Ivanov accepted the award and thanked the organizers for the recognition. “Our team is working very actively on new patent applications. Acad. Chavdar Roumenin has created a school at the Institute of Robotics and continues to develop it”, Prof. Ivanov said.

The 42nd ceremony at the Central Patent Library was attended by the Vice President of BAS Corr. Memb. Stefan Hadjitodorov as well as representatives of the team of Prof. August Ivanov – Acad. Chavdar Roumenin and Prof. Siya Lozanova.

One hundred and sixty scientists and authors of inventions have been listed in the Golden Book of Bulgarian Discoverers and Inventors since it was first opened in 1981.
