From March 2nd to 6th, the Convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC'2025) was held in Toronto, Canada ‒ one of the largest forums in the mining industry with 27 thousand participants from 135 countries. The results and innovative achievements of the scientists under the "Environmental Protection and Risk Reduction from Adverse Events and Natural Disasters" National Scientific Programme are presented in a thematic collection of the same name edited by Corr. Memb. К. Ganev and Prof. Boian Koulov. The 473-page publication was presented during the final scientific conference of the programme which took place on 6 February at BAS. The Marine Chemistry Testing Laboratory at the Institute of Oceanology-BAS has received an internationally recognized accreditation certificate from the “Bulgarian Accreditation Service” Executive Agency, according to BDS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 which defines the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Thus, the Institute of Oceanology - BAS which is statutorily designated to monitor the ecological and chemical status of marine waters has met the requirements of Article 84 (1) of Regulation No 1 of 11 April 2011 on water monitoring, according to which all analytical methods, including laboratory and field methods, used for the purpose of chemical monitoring programmes should be validated/verified and documented in accordance with BDS EN ISO/IEC-17025 or other equivalent internationally recognised standards.   The President of BAS Professor Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, opened the scientific conference "Climate Risks in the Black Sea Region" by stressing the great importance of science in solving large-scale problems such as climate change. The conference accompanies the 61st session of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and takes place at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (25-26 July 2024). Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 9 to 11 January, hosted the third edition of the Future Minerals Forum - one of the most important conferences for the mining industry, setting global priorities and trends not only in the mining and processing industry but also in the world economy.
