Unprecedented success of a Bulgarian participant in the Research Science Institute – RSI in the USA

Each summer, 80 outstanding students from around the world gather at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to participate in the Research Science Institute (RSI) – an international summer program for high-school students. This year, 100 students participated in RSI for the first time. The High-School-Students’ Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (HSSIMI) selected the Bulgarian RSI participants based on the students' performance in HSSIMI events after a special interview. Prof. Revalski, Full Member of BAS, awards a diploma of associate member of AACM to Prof. Ivan Kostov

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, has awarded today a diploma of Associate Member of the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members to Prof. Ivan Kostov. Our goal is to maintain good cooperation with colleagues working abroad, said Prof. Revalski and recalled that in March the Assembly of Academicians elected two Bulgarian scientists as associate members of AACM - Prof. Ivan Kostov and Prof. Dimitar Sasselov. Prof. Erhard Hinrichs with a Badge of Honour “FOR MERITS TO BAS”

Prof. Erhard Hinrichs from the University of Tübingen, Germany, has been awarded with a badge of honour "FOR MERITS TO BAS". The award was presented to him today in “Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall of BAS by the Scientific Secretary-General of the Academy Prof. Neli Koseva. The prize is awarded for the contribution of Prof. Hinrichs to asserting BAS as a leading centre in the field of language resources and technologies. The ceremony took place during the official opening of the second international CLaDA-BG conference - Language Technologies and Digital Humanities: Resources and Applications 2023 which is taking place from 10 to 12 May.

Honorary medal “FOR MERITS TO BAS” for Prof. Raytcho Lazarov

  The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, awarded an honorary medal "FOR MERITS TO BAS" to Prof. Raytcho Lazarov. The Governing Board of the Academy awarded the distinction to Prof. Lazarov for his contribution to the modern development of scientific research in the field of numerical methods and algorithms at BAS. Raytcho Lazarov is a world-renowned scientist in the field of mathematics and computer science, Professor Emeritus at Texas A&M University. He has published highly acclaimed and cited joint papers with scientists from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics and the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of BAS.  

Neurotechnology research project launched

A new experimental laboratory at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IICT) will be established under the "VIBraTE" project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme. This was announced by Assoc. Prof. Dimiter Prodanov who presented the planned activities of the project and gave a lecture at BAS on the perspectives of neurotechnologies. The "VIBraTE" project has started in February 2023 and will last until 31 January 2028. The Director of IICT Corr. Mem. Svetozar Margenov, who opened the event, specified that so far in Bulgaria such an innovative project had not been implemented. Assoc.
