The Assembly of Academicians today has elected three new academicians in the fields of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, and Arts and Art Studies.

 

 

 

 

Agricultural and Forestry Sciences Branch:

Academician Atanas Ivanov Pavlov

Born in 1967. His main scientific contributions are in the areas of:

Biologically active substances from in vitro plant systems with application in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.

Development of aqueous biphasic systems as non-traditional methods for cultivation of in vitro plant systems.

New and non-traditional bioreactor systems for in vitro cultivation of plant systems.

Cell agronomy with multi-metabolite profiling.

He works at the University of Food Technologies – Plovdiv and the Institute of Microbiology “Stephan Angeloff” of BAS. In 2014, he was elected a corresponding member of BAS.

 

Arts and Art Studies Branch:

Department of Arts

Academician Vladimir Panteleev Zarev

Born in 1947. A writer. His work reflects the vibrations of particularly significant periods of our national historical destiny, of collapsed illusions and hopes, portraits of ancestral communities transported into the future, to the horizons of their comprehension with the perceptions and sensitivity of the contemporary. Editor-in-chief of the magazine for Bulgarian and translated literature “Savremennik” (“Contemporary”).

Academician Svetlanka Emilova Kuyumdzhieva

Born in 1949. Art historian, discoverer, pioneer, analyst of the processes in the study of the millennial history of Bulgarian music in the period IX – XIX centuries, with achievements and innovations in the study of new musical sources, new chants, ancient manuscripts, original works associated with the names of direct disciples of Saints Cyril and Methodius, vivid and without parallel in the Byzantine musical literature. Corresponding member of BAS since 2012.
