The competition is a Bulgarian initiative (2005). It is organized by the Experimental Laboratory of Karstology (http://www.prokarstterra.bas.bg/lab/EN/index.html) of the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in partnership with Foundation Center on Karstology “Vladimir Popov”, Sofia. The competition is part of the original educational strategy ProKARSTerra-Edu developed under the auspices of UNESCO which aims innovative training and education for and through karst. The fifth edition of the competition is the Bulgarian participation in the International Year of Caves and Karst (IYCK) (http://iyck2021.org/index.php/events/), a large-scale global action of the International Union of Speleology (UIS).

The Competition is open to all who are interested in karst and caves: pupils, teachers, university students and professors, researchers, speleologists, nature lovers (without age limit). The competition offers 18 sections for 5 categories of participants and wide opportunities for manifestation of skills and innovations. Competition works will be judged by an international jury. The winner of the Grand prize for the most original achievement will receive an invitation to participate in a specialized excursion in remarkable karst areas in Bulgaria. Bulgarian karst is still little known but is unique in its diversity.

We wish all participants in the competition a lot of inspiration and success!
