An innovative electronic shepherd is helping Bulgarian farmers

Scientists from the Institute of Robotics at BAS have developed an innovative electronic shepherd for use in agriculture. The system for electronically counting and tracking animals -sheep and goats - has been successfully implemented on Bulgarian farms. It includes remote monitoring and guidance of the animals for regulated and systematic grazing and watering, completely replacing traditional herding. The herd’s movement is monitored remotely, and real-time information is obtained on heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and other biometric indicators without direct physical contact with the animal. Bust-monument of Academician Blagovest Sendov at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS

A bust-monument to Academician Blagovest Sendov was officially unveiled at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS.  To honor the memory of this exceptional scientist, public figure, and visionary, the official ceremony was attended by Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, BAS President Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, BAS President Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy (2016-2024 term of office), relatives, friends, and representatives of the academic community. Prof. Emil Manoach receives the “Marin Drinov” Honorary Medal on a ribbon

The Governing Council of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences awarded Prof. Dr. Emil Manoach from the Institute of Mechanics of BAS with the “Marin Drinov” Honorary Medal. The award was presented by the President of the Academy, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, at an official ceremony. The Honorary Medal was awarded to Prof. Manoach for his multifaceted scientific, project and organizational activities for the development of Bulgarian science, and mathematics and mechanics in Bulgaria in particular, and on the occasion of his 70th anniversary. BAS Team wins award for open science

A research team led by Prof. Desislava Paneva-Marinova from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS was awarded the first prize for overall contribution to open science “ORBIT” 2025. The Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Acad. Nikolay Vitanov, presented the awards, which would be given annually, for the first time. The aim of the awards is to encourage the application of the principles of open and responsible science and innovation (Open and Responsible Research and Innovation - #ORRI) in Bulgarian universities and scientific organizations which were promoted last year by the ORBIT project – Incubator for Open Scientific Research under the European Union's REINFORCING program. The International Center for Mathematical Sciences presents its new research groups

The President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, participated in the official opening of a conference of the International Center for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The event featured presentations of the Center's new research groups led by world-renowned scientists in various fields of contemporary fundamental and applied mathematics. Berlin Process for the Western Balkans scientific conference

The 9th Joint Scientific Conference of the Berlin Process for the Western Balkans was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 14 to 16 October under the title “Science under Pressure - Challenges and Opportunities”. On behalf of BAS, Prof. Ivan Georgiev, Scientific Secretary of the “Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies” division took part in the forum. The main topics discussed at the conference were the freedom and autonomy of academic institutions and the role of academies and universities in supporting and strengthening the knowledge economy, security, democracy and the rule of law in the Western Balkan countries.
