Berlin Process for the Western Balkans scientific conference

The 9th Joint Scientific Conference of the Berlin Process for the Western Balkans was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 14 to 16 October under the title “Science under Pressure - Challenges and Opportunities”. On behalf of BAS, Prof. Ivan Georgiev, Scientific Secretary of the “Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies” division took part in the forum. The main topics discussed at the conference were the freedom and autonomy of academic institutions and the role of academies and universities in supporting and strengthening the knowledge economy, security, democracy and the rule of law in the Western Balkan countries. Bulgarian-Japanese seminar at the Institute of Robotics

On 26 September, the Institute of Robotics at BAS hosted a seminar on contemporary robotics issues with the participation of scientists from Japan. The Institute of Robotics is celebrating ten years of fruitful collaboration with the Graduate School of Life Sciences and Systems Engineering at Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan. This anniversary was celebrated by Prof. Hiroaki Wagatsuma with a lecture on the achievements of this collaboration. The focus of the long-standing collaborative research has been on experimental approaches in eye-tracking and EEG data analysis for programming intelligent robotic systems. Work starts on the second phase of the Centre of Excellence in Informatics and Information and Communication technologies

The Institute of Information and Communication Technologies has started work on the second phase of the Centre of Excellence in Informatics and Information and Communication Technologies. Bulgarian students win medals at the world’s most prestigious informatics competition

The best Bulgarian students in informatics have made a brilliant performance and won 2 gold and 2 silver medals from the most prestigious global informatics contest in the world. Their success this year is the best Bulgarian performance in the history of the International Olympiad in Informatics as in the unofficial team ranking Bulgaria is ranked 4th in the world, ahead of the USA and Japan. The 37th edition of the Olympiad, which was held in Bolivia from July 27 to August 3, was attended by 330 contestants from 86 countries. Six medals for Bulgaria from the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad in Australia

  The Bulgarian team after the award ceremony The 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2025) was held from 10 to 20 July 2025, hosted by Sunshine Coast, Australia. A record 630 students from 110 countries participated in the most prestigious and oldest mathematics competition. The competition days were 15 and 16 July, with 3 problems to be solved, scored out of 7 points each, in 4 and a half hours. The problem coordination took place on 17 and 18 July and the closing ceremony on 19 July. The Bulgarian team consisted of 6 competitors. “Large Scale Scientific Computations” international scientific conference

 The fifteenth international conference on Large-Scale Scientific Computations LSSC'25 was held in the period 16-20 June in Sozopol. The Forum was organized by the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies - BAS (IICT) in cooperation with the Centre of Excellence for Informatics and ICT (http://ict.acad.bg/). The conference was opened by Corr. Memb. Svetozar Margenov, Chairman of LSSC'25 and Director of IICT-BAS. More than 150 participants from over 20 countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia attended the event.
