Diploma for Foreign Member of BAS was awarded to Prof. Maxim Kontsevich

The International Centre for Mathematical Sciences is gathering world-renowned mathematicians at a forum in Sofia The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, awarded a diploma for Foreign Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences to the world-famous mathematician Maxim Kontsevich. The ceremony took place during the inaugural conference of the International Center for Mathematical Sciences at Grand Hotel Sofia. Maxim Kontsevich was elected a foreign member of the Academy in 2020. He is a professor at the Institute of Higher Education Studies (IHES), Paris and a distinguished professor at the University of Miami, one of the leading mathematicians and theoretical physicists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Innovations in Bulgarian speech synthesis and recognition

Innovations in the field of Bulgarian speech synthesis and recognition - a speaking programme, a medical dictaphone and an administrative "smart stenographer" were demonstrated by the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (IICT-BAS) at BAS. The three innovative developments are based on original machine speech processing technologies and are based on recent advances in deep machine self-learning. Prof. DSc. Stoyan Mihov gave a demonstration for the first time of how the products work. The speaking programme makes it possible to generate speech as natural as possible for people with visual problems. Scientists of BAS are improving a system for motor stimulation after paralysis

NEMO-BMI: Auto-adaptive neuromorphic Brain-Machine Interface: Toward fully embedded neuroprosthetics Scientists from the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of BAS, part of an international consortium, will start work on the project "Auto-Adaptive Neuromorphic Brain-Machine Interface" related to the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare. The project, funded by the European Commission, aims to allow people with severe spinal cord injuries who are unable to move their limbs to "start walking" and perform activities that are not possible without assistive devices. The mechanism of action involves decoding information from the patient's brain about the movements they want to perform and feeding it to an implant for stimulation in the spine or an exoskeleton through which the movements can be performed. Robots and quantum communication with photons demonstrated by scientists on World Intellectual Property Day

Developments of the Institute of Robotics of BAS were presented today within the Open Day of Intellectual Property which was held at the Patent Office on the occasion of 26 April - World Intellectual Property Day. Researchers of the QUASAR Centre of Competence of the Institute of Robotics of BAS showed their inventions and explained the various aspects and issues related to intellectual property. Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Science

Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences participated in a conference on Artificial Intelligence, which the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) organised within the framework of the initiative "Bulgarian Voices for Europe". The forum was opened by the MEPs Petar Vitanov and Eva Maydell and the Director General of BTA Kiril Valchev. The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences prepared the draft Concept for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Bulgaria by 2030. The document offers a comprehensive vision for the development and use of artificial intelligence in our country. By 2030, perhaps 70 percent of professions will be created by artificial intelligence, said Acad. European Commission visit to the Centre of Competence QUASAR

A delegation from the European Commission’s Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy visited on 23 March the Centre of Competence for Quantum Communication, Intelligent Security Systems and Risk Management – QUASAR at the Institute of Robotics of BAS.
