The best young scientists of BAS received awards at a solemn assembly on 24 May

The best young scientists of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences were honored at a solemn assembly on the occasion of 24 May, which was held today in “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The President of the National Assembly Nikola Minchev presented the awards to the winners of the competition for young scientists "Professor Marin Drinov" and the competition for the youngest scientists "Ivan Evstratiev Geshov". For their achievements in the past year, 25 researchers from nine scientific divisions received the two awards. A full list of the winners can be found here. Scientists from BAS with the Pythagoras Prize

Five scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences received the Pythagoras Award of the Ministry of Education and Science for their contribution to science. For the first time in each category, awards were given to an established and a young scientist. In the field of natural sciences and engineering, two established scientists were awarded - Prof. Dr. Margarita Popova from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and Prof. DSc Ivo Grabchev from SU “St. Kliment Ohridski". Prototypes and scientific developments shown at the Science for Business Forum

Developments with the potential to become a successful business were demonstrated by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences during the second edition of the Science for Business Forum, which took place today at Sofia Tech Park. The President of BAS participated in the celebration of 175 years of the Austrian Academy of Sciences

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, participated on 13 and 14 May in Vienna in the solemn celebration of the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. During his visit, Prof. Revalski had a conversation with the President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Anton Zeilinger. At the meeting, a new Memorandum of Cooperation between the two academies was signed. The document aims to encourage and facilitate joint activities between scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

BAS with participation in European Night of Museums – Sofia 2022

The Museums of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will participate in the initiative "European Night of Museums - Sofia 2022", which will take place on 14 May, Saturday. The organisers are the Embassy of the French Republic, the French Institute in Bulgaria, the Ministry of Culture and Sofia Municipality. In the auditorium of the National Museum of Anthropology at IEMPAM - BAS will be presented a series of popular science talks on interesting and socially significant anthropological and medical issues. Scientists will perform measurements to determine anthropological type and flat-foot in children. Guided tours will be organised for the guests in the renovated permanent exhibition of the National Museum of Anthropology. The President of BAS met with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, met with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bulgaria H.E. Hussein Husseinov. At the meeting, the relations between BAS and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the State University of Baku were discussed. It was pointed out that the Covid-19 pandemic has to some extent hampered joint scientific activities but they are expected to intensify again. Opportunities were explored for a meeting between the Heads of the two Academies by the end of 2022.
